Kalen Biomedical is proud to work with international researchers and distributors across the globe. We believe that increasing knowledge should be a worldwide effort and we are happy to provide high quality research materials to those that need them. Look below to find out some of the research that is happening internationally using our products!

Researchers studied the anti-atherosclerotic properties of Carioca beans (also known as pinto beans). Oxidized LDL receptor (LOX-1) expression was reduced when exposed to carioca bean peptides.

Products Used:  Medium Oxidized LDL

Preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication, is characterized by vasodilation and increased oxidative stress. A study was conducted to determine if sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate (STS) could reduce these negative effects. STS reduced oxidative stress, but increased activity of the LOX-1 receptor and thus there was no improvement in pregnancy outcomes

Products Used: Medium Oxidized LDL

Morton, J. S., Quon, A., Cheung, P. Y., Sawamura, T., & Davidge, S. T. (2015). Effect of sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate treatment in a rat model of preeclampsia. American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology308(3), R163-R172.

Canadian Distributor: Cedarlane

A study conducted by researchers at Aichi Medical University School of Medicine in Japan revealed that lipopolysaccharide up-regulates LOX-1 receptors. This increase in the uptake of oxidized LDL can promote the formation of foam cells and atherosclerotic plaque formation.

Products Used: DiI Oxidized LDL

Hossain, E., Ota, A., Karnan, S., Takahashi, M., Mannan, S. B., Konishi, H., & Hosokawa, Y. (2015). Lipopolysaccharide augments the uptake of oxidized LDL by up-regulating lectin-like oxidized LDL receptor-1 in macrophages. Molecular and cellular biochemistry400(1-2), 29-40.

Japanese Distributor: Cosmo Bio

Researchers in China found that selective agonists of CB2 receptors increase the phagocytosis of apoptotic cells in normal-cultured macrophages and macrophages loaded with oxidized LDL. This may help combat the defective efferocytosis that occurs in atherosclerotic plaques.

Products Used: Oxidized LDL

Jiang, L., Chen, Y., Huang, X., Yuan, A., Shao, Q., Pu, J., & He, B. (2016). Selective activation of CB2 receptor improves efferocytosis in cultured macrophages. Life sciences, 161, 10-18.

Chinese Distributor: Beijing Lebo Biotech

German researchers examined effect of PCSK9, a regulator of LDL-R expression, in vascular smooth muscles cell and its impact of monocyte function.

Products Used: LDL

Grune, J., Meyborg, H., Bezhaeva, T., Kappert, K., Hillmeister, P., Kintscher, U., ... & Stawowy, P. (2017). PCSK9 regulates the chemokine receptor CCR2 on monocytes. Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 485(2), 312-318.

Italian researchers studied the involvement of HDL in the cell replicative cycles of Swiss 3t3 fibroblasts in different experimental conditions. They concluded that in the transition from G0 to G1/S, cholesteryl ester - HDL uptake is required.

Products: DiO HDL

Angius, F., Spolitu, S., Uda, S., Deligia, S., Frau, A., Banni, S., ... & Batetta, B. (2015). High-density lipoprotein contribute to G0-G1/S transition in Swiss NIH/3T3 fibroblasts. Scientific reports, 5.
